內容簡介

Rock music criticism has been slow in being recognized by scholars as serious writing. In order to rectify this view, Lindberg (teacher education, Malm繹 University, Sweden) and other Scandinavian scholars in sociology, musicology, and ethnomusicology survey American and British rock music criticism from the 1960s to the present. They also view rock music criticism as a discourse, their methodology stemming from the cultural theories of Pierre Bourdieu. Coverage includes social and cultural aspects of the 1960s and 1970s; a survey of writing from 1964 to 2004 by critics including Chris Welch, Paul Williams, Richard Goldstein, Nik Cohn, Jon Landau, Robert Christgau, Greil Marcus, Dave Marsh, and Lester Bangs; punk and its impact; postmodernism; and the influence of magazines during the 1980s and 1990s.
