Three Italian Epistolary Novels: Foscolo, De Meis, Piovene -- Translations, Introductions, And Backgrounds

Originating in England in the 16th century, the use of personal letters in fictional literature was later adopted by a number of Italian authors. In this study, Traversa (California State U.) translates some examples of this genre and provides background information on the authors. Three novels are presented: The Last Letters of Jacopo Ortis (Ugo Foscolo, 1802), After Graduation (Angelo Camillo De Meis, 1868-69), and Letters from a Convent (Guido Piovene, 1941).
