After a long career involved with medieval song (Southern Methodist University) in which she undertook transcription and documentation of roughly 4,500 melodies, Mayer-Martin died in 2009,
before completion of her goal of sorting and cataloguing melodies based on their incipits. Fortunately, she had a partner in the endeavor. Dorothy Keyser joined the project in 1994, and began
creating a digital database, inputting the melodies as a series of intervals expressed in semitones. This catalogue is the result of their combined efforts. The indexing and cross referencing
