Narrative Sculpture and Literary Traditions in South and Southeast Asia

Seven papers presented during an August 1996 master class at the U. of Leiden take a close look at how the rich literary heritage of ancient India has been visually represented in paintings and sculptures. The papers (six in English, one in French) identify and interpret art works related to Indian epic literature that appear in temples in India, Java, Cambodia, and Vietnam.
