內容簡介

The friendship between Edith Wharton and Louis Bromfield evolved toward the end of Wharton’s life and during the height of Bromfield’s career. The gardens of the historic French properties on which they lived inspired these two Pulitzer Prize-winning authors to begin a relationship which endured until Wharton’s death in 1937. At the heart of these letters is Wharton and Bromfield’s devotion to horticultural pursuits. The letters also describe the social-political milieu of America and France during the 1930s, the literary worlds in which they lived, and the publishing climate of the Depression era. Includes b&w and color photos of places mentioned. Annotation c. Book News, Inc., Portland, OR (booknews.com)
