This volume contains an eclectic collection of writings concerned with Chinese politics and economics, primarily as seen through the lens of US government concerns. Topics include China's
military modernization; the relationship between foreign direct investment and economic growth; an overview of the Chinese economy; exchange rate negotiations involving China, the United
States, and the International Monetary Fund; comparison of Chinese and American advertising; administrative barriers to foreign direct investment; and US antidumping duties on Chinese
companies. Two of the pieces are excerpts from Congressional Research Service reports, while another reproduces a report from the General Accounting Office. It is difficult to discern whether
the other materials are original to the volume or not. Annotation 穢2007 Book News, Inc., Portland, OR (booknews.com)
