Jean Dubuffet was one of the most remarkable artists of the 20th century and the inventor par excellence of new plastic languages. An enemy of culture and of the art of museums, he was an
anarchist and an atheist, and anti-military and unpatriotic in his attitudes. As such, he was a rebel who rejected all labels or categories, asserting "there is no such thing as abstract art,
either that or art is always abstract". He is one of those creators who have altered not only our vision of art but the very framework of our urban life. His work encourages us to take a new
look at the land, the silhouettes of passers-by and the faces in which animal, vegetable and mineral interpenetrate each other organically. As a result of Dubuffet's influence, we are drawn to
review our notions of hierarchy between things and people.
