The Singer’s Voice

Benninger (otolaryngology, The Cleveland Clinic) and Murry (speech pathology; voice & swallowing, Columbia U.) combine their expertise and that of other professionals involved with the care and treatment of singers--and others who use their voices extensively (e.g. teachers, actors). The editors (who are also contributors) are joined by contributing psychologists, singing voice specialists, singing teachers, and performers, gearing the material for the performers themselves as well as for their teachers and medical personnel. After overview articles on the anatomy and physiology of the vocal mechanism and voice production, and on artistic vocal styles and techniques, chapters are arranged in sections on assessment and diagnosis, and treatments (medications, alternative therapies, strategies for dealing with vocal tension, performance anxiety issues, surgery).
