The final installation in a series, this six-volume work follows the same format of the other titles, presenting 2-4 page essays on significant events and themes, arranged chronologically by
date, and totalling 1083 entries. Approximately 36 entries are presented for each year covered. Presented in actual date order, the result is a vivid, unmediated sense of history, with
international and national events of all kinds juxtaposed as they would be in a daily paper. The essays describe the story behind the event, to make the larger context evident to the reader.
Some of the entries are taken from other Salem Press publications and presented in updated versions; over a third are original to this work. Entry topics include politic events, philosophies,
and policies; scientific discoveries; human rights issues; and themes related to daily life, among others. There are four indexes, by geographical area, category, name, and subject. A list of
references concludes each entry. The material is suitable for high school aged students and above. Annotation 穢2008 Book News, Inc., Portland, OR (booknews.com)
