內容簡介

Varnedoe, an influential and much-loved museum curator and teacher in the US who died in 2003 at age 57, is celebrated in this volume of 20 essays by former students and colleagues. Reflecting the subjects of Varnedoe's own influential exhibitions and monographs, the essays present analysis of themes and works by 19th- and 20th-century artists that include Brancusi, Picasso, Gauguin, Paul Strand, and Robert Rauschenberg. A bibliography of Varnedoe's publications and exhibitions is included. Essays by Robert Storr and Robert Rosenblum are appreciations of Varnedoe as a curator and as an art historian of the 19th century. The volume, which is oversized (9x11"), is heavily illustrated in b&w and color. Annotation 穢2009 Book News, Inc., Portland, OR (booknews.com)
