The assumption underlying the eight-volume series is that an interdisciplinary perspective is required to reconstruct 17th-century scientific practices of presentation, observation, and medial competence. This second volume was published in 2006 as Instrumente in Kunst und Widdenschaft following a conference in Berlin. The 25 papers discuss a wide range of topics, among them: the construction of rationality and irrationality in early modern modes of representation, early descriptions of African musical instruments, and the illusion of power in central bank money.
