This is a story of wonderful family memories and the gift of love that came to a family through the friendship of the dogs that shared their lives. It is dedicated to my wife, Rae, whose strength in her battle with breast cancer is a gift to us all. It is also for our four children, and four grandchildren who now have dogs of their own. Clearly, life is the process of childhood, youth, maturing and growing old. It seems that we are given dogs, who live this process in fast forward, as a key lesson to increase our appreciation of the gift of life. The shorter life of dogs reminds us that life begins and ends. Dogs' shorter lives also underscore the importance of living life one day at a time.
