A reality TV show has hired the Trident, a long-range research vessel, and a cast of ambitious scientists. Tiny, unexplored Henders Island might be just the drama the pushy director is looking for. But when the first scientists set foot on Henders, there's more drama than anyone could imagine as a terrifying test of survival begins. When they reach the island's shores, scientists are utterly unprepared for what they find -- creatures unlike any ever recorded. This is not a lost world but the Earth as it might have looked after evolving on a separate path for half a billion years.

Soon the scientists will stumble on something even more shocking: among the terrors of Henders Island, one life form defies any and all scientific theory. It must be saved at all cost.
