Jeffries, honorary professor of economics at Swansea University, has compiled a "guide" to Chinese economic development. It is, however, extremely puzzling in that it primarily contains an
assortment of quotations gleaned from texts and the Internet on the topics of agriculture, gradual movement toward capitalism, reform of state industrialization, foreign trade and global
economy. There is also a section detailing problems such as poverty, the growing gap between rich and poor and pollution. The quotations are presented with little or no comments, evaluations or
analysis. The reliability of the various sources is not stated. Annotation 穢2010 Book News, Inc., Portland, OR (booknews.com)
