The play in this volume is based on a true rebellion that occurred against the government of Venice and the Doge, Pietro Gradenigo, on June 15, 1310. Martinez de la Rosa, our author, used this event as theme for the action, but set in it a young couple passionately in love, who are more controlled by fate than by their own wills.
