The inter-relation between small and medium enterprise (SME) and public policy has attracted increased attention globally in recent years, from both policy makers and academics, as the
importance of entrepreneurship in economic development has been recognized. Editor Smallbone (Small Business Research Centre, Kingston University, UK) assembled 26 previously published articles
(presented here in two volumes) as a foundational reference for further research. He provides an introductory essay explaining the rationale for his selection of articles and the major themes
of their organization, concluding with the suggestion that activities in academia don't always translate into "robust" public policy, and that "future research agendas might benefit from some
comparative analysis of the research-policy interfaces in other policy areas." Topics addressed encompass innovation and technology, taxation policy and regulation, intervention in the market
for business advice, and regional perspectives on entrepreneurship. Selections are from such publications as Entrepreneurship Theory and Practice, Journal of Law and Society, and Small Business
Economics. There is no indexing. Annotation 穢2011 Book News, Inc., Portland, OR (booknews.com)
