Though Stern (1716-68) is mostly known for his often peculiar fiction, for most of his life his rhetoric was confined to composing and delivering sacramental texts as an Anglican priest.
Scholars of English literature examine his published sermons from the perspectives of theological contexts, sources and influences, and rhetorical and affective techniques. Among specific
topics are reading and misreading the genres of his sermons, the sermon in Tristram Shandy, and Sterne and the art of war sermons. The accompanying disk contains a recording of a 2008
performance of his sermon The Case of Hezekiah and the Messengers. Distributed in the US by Associated University Presses. Annotation 穢2010 Book News, Inc., Portland, OR (booknews.com)
