Fattypuffs and Thinifers

　　'Two Surface-dwellers. Two! He's a Fattypuff and you're a Thinifer. There's no doubt about it!'

　　Edmund is a little on the plump side and his brother Terry is a bit of a rake. When they discover the Country Under the Earth they are divided and sent to the warring kingdoms of the Fattypuffs and the Thinifers.

　　The Fattypuffs eat a meal every hour, and then sleep for a quarter of an hour. You can't imagine nicer people - all day long they laugh, drink and talk about food. They are never cross and scarcely ever unhappy.

　　The Thinifers like nothing more than discipline and work 6 days a week. When they make appointments they name the time exactly, to the very second - for instance at 6 hours, 17 minutes and 3 seconds.They eat standing up and they are wonderfully good at arithmetic.

作者簡介

　　Andre Maurois was born in France in 1885. He worked in his father's textile factory as a young man and when World War One broke out he was employed as an interpreter, then as a liaison officer to the British Army. He wrote many novels for adults. Fattypuffs and Thinifers is his only book for children.
