The series reflects the arrangement of artifacts in the museum by material, and this volume considers mostly figurines and lamps made of terra cotta, but also a near life-size head and an arula
(portable alter), and--the gravity of object type having proved too strong to resist entirely--two bronze lamps. Within sections on figurines and lamps, the arrangement is chronological from
prehistory to Mediaeval, combined with a typological classification for the lamps. Each entry includes a black-and-white photograph and gradiated drawing, place of origin, donor, dimensions,
physical description, and form and decoration; then parallels are considered from the perspectives of excavations, collections, date, and commentary. Donors of the pieces are indexed.
