Butz (art history, Savannah College of Art and Design) looks at the Hekatompedon Inscription from the point of view of an artist. She sees the inscription as an artistic masterpiece as well as
an important record of Greek religious beliefs. To prove this, she studies the formation of each letter of the alphabet along with punctuation and spacing. She feels that the presentation of
the sacred law in this form identified it to the viewer as sacred. This stoikhedon style, she argues, became a standard. Butz considers Egyptian influences but believes that the use of the
Greek language was in itself important to the emotional and aesthetic impact of the inscription. She makes a good case for reviewing the inscription and seeing the medium and the message as a
