內容簡介

Berlin-based British-Israeli artist Yishay Garbasz is no stranger to publicly documenting very personal journeys. In 2004, with camera in hand, she retraced her mother's movement through World War II concentration camps, photographing how these places look today in order to better understand her mother and herself. Liberated by British troops in 1945, Garbasz's mother survived her ordeal though she rarely discussed it. The resulting book, In My Mother's Footsteps, created a bridge of understanding between the two, and it also revealed to Garbasz how her mother's trauma had greatly affected her.

The process helped Garbasz better realize her own identity, part of which included undergoing a series of transgender surgeries. Becoming brilliantly and bravely makes visible the stages of Garbasz's transformation with a flipbook format that includes two essays that will frame the project in a cultural context.
