內容簡介

This is a revised second edition of a work first published in 1992 to commemorate the centennial of the American Psychological Association and to provide readers with an encyclopedic view of the history and development of psychotherapy from its inception to the present day. The text's contributions address the capsule history of psychotherapy, psychotherapy theories, psychotherapy research, psychotherapy practices, and psychotherapy education and training. For this edition, editors Norcross (psychology, U. of Scranton), VandenBos (executive director of the Office of Publications and Databases of the American Psychological Association), and Freedheim (emeritus, psychology, Case Western Reserve U.) have commissioned new chapters on multicultural theories, psychotherapy with adolescents, psychotherapy with health conditions, couples therapy, integration of spirituality and religion into psychotherapy, pharmacotherapy, licensing and credentialing, continuing education, psychotherapy supervision, and psychotherapy ethics, as well as an entirely new section on psychotherapy for specific disorders, including depression, anxiety, substance abuse, borderline personality disorders, and psychosis. As in the first edition, 12 major research programs contributing to recent psychotherapeutic knowledge are profiled, but only two of them are the same as in the earlier edition.
