內容簡介

Two volumes contain 156 contributions (selected from 259 submissions) presented at the May 2010 conference (Banff, Canada), sponsored by a division of the American Society of Civil Engineers, the Canadian Society for Civil Engineering, and the universities of Alberta and Calgary. Within the over-riding theme, "Innovation for Reshaping Construction Practice," sub-themes include automated/real time systems, construction modeling and simulation, disaster planning and mitigation, infrastructure management and underground construction, knowledge management, organizational leadership, productivity and workforce issues, risk assessment and control, and sustainable construction. The included subject index will help with navigation of this diverse set of papers. Clearly, forward-thinking engineers, contractors, and architects must keep abreast and take advantage of technology that can track and classify activity, measure blind spots, estimate cost, indicate the health of a project, simulate cranes for complex industrial projects, optimize hazard investment strategies, among other tasks. Construction education, too, is changing, and a half dozen contributions address competencies for baccalaureate level construction education, faculty internship, and virtual construction project field trips, among other topics.
