Young bio-tech genius Ryan Lear has a fast-growing Silicon Valley company and a bright future. But when Ryan's business partner is murdered and Ryan's life is threatened, it looks like someone is trying to destroy both Ryan and his company. Ryan calls Tahoe Detective Owen McKenna and asks for help. McKenna discovers that Ryan's troubles are connected to a secret high-altitude research facility that Ryan's company has up on the side of Mt. Rose. As McKenna follows the tracks of a vicious killer, the only clues appear to be a wild Mustang named Heat that roams Tahoe's forests, far from its native desert lands, and a piano tuner who encoded a mysterious message in his last piano tuning.
