The Relative Clause in Old English: An Analysis of Syntactic and Stylistic Ambiguity

This study focuses on the relative clause, investigating problems of ambiguity associated with relative pronouns in Old English and the distinction between restrictive and nonrestrictive clauses in prose and poetry. Troup considers the relationship of relativization in poetry to apposition and ends by framing a set of questions regarding prose and poetry writers and their styles.
