內容簡介

Scholars of German and English literature and philosophy investigate how the imagination was theorized and enacted by different individuals at various historical junctions, mostly from the end of the 18th century to the middle of the 19th. They also chronicle some of the vicissitudes in the conceptualization and evaluation of the imagination and its products that occur across time and in a variety of intellectual disciplines, particularly philosophy and literary studies. Among the topics are literary and constructive imagination in the history of geology, Kant and Spinoza on fictions, Hegel's philosophical conception of the imagination, and Schelling's modern mythology and the coming community.
