The editors (variously associated with the Washington-based Peterson Institute for International Economics and the Brussels-based economic think-tank, Bruegel) present the proceedings of a pair
of policy conferences jointly organized by their respective institutions in October 2010 and September 2011. The conferences were organized to address two key issues: the conduct of policy by
the European Union and the United States towards new rising economic poles around the world and the substantive contents of the EU-US bilateral economic and political relationship. Specific
topics include divergence between European and US macroeconomic policy, climate change policy, the transatlantic relationship and reform of the global financial architecture, the international
