　　瑪麗莎．桑多的家庭來自菲律賓，父親是 外科手術醫生，母親是護士，她自幼成長於美國巴爾地摩和北維吉尼亞州，自稱是個「快樂的小孩，但有點神經質」，很喜歡美國小說家露意莎．梅．奧爾科特、海 倫凱勒、聖女貞德，和美國紅十字會創辦人克拉拉．芭頓。她喜歡一邊看書，一邊溜冰、翻筋斗、或是下樓梯，連泡澡時也要看書，但常因此釀成悲劇。
