This reference for high school and up features entries on 120 people who influenced the creation and growth of the Internet. In selecting those profiled, the book seeks gender balance, with
profiles of female executives such as Yahoo! CEO Marissa Mayer and Flickr cofounder Caterina Fake, in addition to well-known men such as Julian Assange (Wikileaks) and Mark Zuckerberg
(Facebook). Each entry (about 2,000 words) starts with a summary of the subject’s importance, then gives details on the subject’s early life, how they entered their chosen field, and their
major achievements and failures. Each entry also includes a b&w drawing, a list of further reading, and a sidebar on the person’s affiliated company, organization, website, or online
service. The reference also contains a timeline, a section of one-paragraph summaries of each person profiled, and category and company indexes. A companion website offers a digital version of
the book. Annotation ©2013 Book News, Inc., Portland, OR (booknews.com)
