Patrick Pearse (1879-1916) was an Irish teacher, writer, political activist, and one of the leaders of the Easter Rising against the British, for which he was executed. This volume reproduces
all of Pearse’s surviving plays, eight in all, with two of those written in Gaelic accompanied by English translations and another by Pearse’s own English summary. The editors (Dublin City U.,
Ireland) have also sought to provide as much contextual material as possible, and so have also included a selection of Pearse’s writings on the theater as well as descriptive treatments of his
performance pieces for which the scripts have been lost. An introduction reviews Pearse’s career as a playwright and its significance to his other work. Distributed in the US by ISBS.
