Published in association with the Oesterreichische Nationalbank, Austria, where the three editors are affiliated, this volume contains 19 contributed chapters from economists and monetary
strategists based in Europe and the US (and one in Russia). Their affiliations are with universities, international organizations (International Monetary Fund, European Commission), and banks.
Analyses involve the interrelationships of a triangle of regions: central, eastern, and south-eastern Europe (CESEE); China; and Russia. Among the broad themes: global imbalances and policy
challenges, competitiveness and trade, the sustainability of current growth strategies, and banking and financial stability in the light of the crisis. A sampling of more specific topics: the
economic impact of China and Russian on the catching-up process in CESEE, German unification and intra-European imbalances, why trade negotiations take so long, the impact of Chinese
competition on Hungarian manufacturing, and China’s shadow banking sector (pillar, or threat to the system?). Annotation ©2013 Book News, Inc., Portland, OR (booknews.com)
