Cheney and McAllister offer this book on textile art techniques, using the subject of the poppy as a theme to illustrate approaches using different media. The first few chapters open with
visual research, design, and the principle of repeat structures. Then the actual textile manipulation is addressed in four sections. Constructing a fabric through knitting, embroidery, and
different stitch variations is explained. Decorating an existing surface is covered with the techniques of beading, loop and ribbon decorating, and working off an existing grid or mesh.
Conjoining of fabrics is exemplified by quilting, and creating patterns through disruption or destruction of a surface, such as soldering iron perforation, cutting, felting, and gathering with
stitch are detailed. Finally trims and edging receive a chapter. A list of materials suppliers and biographies of several textile designers are included. Annotation ©2014 Ringgold, Inc.,
