Kunisada’s Tokaido: Riddles in Japanese Woodblock Prints

The focus of this detailed study is on sets of woodblock prints by the prolific Kunisada in which actors are placed in Tokaido scenes--thus creating a many-layered web of meanings awaiting the perceptive viewer. Based on the author’s PhD dissertation (2010: Leiden U.), this lovely volume affords generous full-page and smaller display of numerous prints illustrating the study.
