It includes scholarly papers and artists’ statements, and a DVD of examples of immersive soundscapes. The book is divided into four sections: history, environments, relationships, and possibilities. Contributors look occasionally at urban ambient sound (the soundscape of Venice), sometimes at sound representations of environmental phenomena, but most often at public or gallery art projects using created sound installations which are not music.
