內容簡介

A specialist history for readers of local history or of the history of finance in the US, this book focuses on the history of banking in the state of Oklahoma in the twentieth century. Oklahoma became a state at the same time as a major bank panic, and both caused a reinvention of financial policy in the territory. Much of the early history is that of a frontier economy. The book is based on interviews with bankers and historical research. It pays particular attention to land and oil speculation, the rise and fall of Penn Square Bank, and issues of regulation. The author is an independent historian and principal researcher for the Oklahoma Bank and Commerce History Project of the Oklahoma Historical Society with a previous book on the same subject.
