The editors present a collection of 17 papers arguing for good governance as fundamental to achieving sustainable development and prosperity in Africa. The first chapter is an overview of the
challenges to good governance and security, and some of the strategies instituted to address those challenges. The United Nations’ Millennium Development Goals set up a context for tracking
progress. Section II, "Foreign Aid Goals and Practices," focuses on human development, aid, poverty reduction and conducting assessments. Section III, "Sustainable Development Challenges,"
examines populations dynamics, climate change, and specific conservation projects. Section IV, "Identity and Governance," looks at the preeminence of identity politics in African development,
touching on ethnic, religious, and sub-nationalist examples. Section V, "Governance and Development," contains case studies in Ghana, Rwanda, South Africa and Morocco. Annotation ©2015
