The Electric Pencil: Drawings From Inside State Hospital No. 3 provides full-color photographs of over 280 drawings created by James Edward Deeds Jr., an inmate of State Hospital No. 3 in the
early-to-mid 1900s. This mysterious album had ended up on eBay in the early 2000s, inciting the curiosity of collector and sculptor Harris Diamant, who hired a private investigator to track
down the identity of the album’s creator. Deeds, dubbed “The Electric Pencil” until his identity was known, had spent his adult life in State Hospital No. 3. His album is a testament to the
