內容簡介

Thirty-Six Views: The Kangxi Emperor’s Mountain Estate in Poetry and Prints is a translation of and academic commentary on the Imperial Poems on the Mountain Estate for Escaping the Heat, originally published in 1912 by China’s Kangxi emperor, who ruled from 1661 to 1722. The original tome was intended to present a self-portrait of his life and his favorite garden in celebration of his sixtieth year and was originally written in Chinese, with several works of poetry accompanied by woodblock prints created by court artists. Thirty-Six Views attempts to capture the essence of the original publication, along with the personality and spirit of the Kangxi emperor who created it.
