Tracing the Bones

Eve Myer is forty-one and feels trapped in a stale suburban marriage. She’s got two small kids, chronic back pain, and a cynical outlook—except for the occasional adolescent hopefulness displayed in her flurry of attempts to reignite a decaying writing career. When new neighbors, both of whom work in the healing arts, move in next door, Eve becomes consumed with conflicted feelings—jealousy and yet affection for Anna, and a powerful lust for Billy that goes against her desire to be a decent wife and mother despite her husband’s philandering and their farce of a sex life. Eve begins healing sessions with Billy despite her intense feelings—but soon afterward, Anna and her small son drown in the bathtub of their newly renovated home, inviting more suspicion and mistrust into Eve’s marriage. As Eve’s life unravels, her sessions with Billy intensify, culminating in an alternative, experimental trip deep into the woods—a freezing winter’s journey that threatens the remaining bonds of Eve’s marriage and finally uncovers the reason for Anna’s death.
