Acts of Compassion in Greek Tragic Drama

This study analyzes compassion as a dramatic theme in ancient Greek literature, particularly the epics and tragedies of Homer, Aischylos, Euripedes, and Sophokles and their use of reciprocity and reverence as defining features of Greek compassion. It focuses on the aesthetic or educational emotional response of the spectator/reader to the fictional representation of suffering, and the different treatments of compassion by these writers.
