鮑里斯．列昂尼多維奇．帕斯捷爾納克（1890-1960）

　　蘇聯詩人、小說家。出生在一個猶太「藝術家庭」，父親雷奧尼（Leonid）是名畫家，曾為托爾斯泰《復活》畫過插畫；母親羅莎（Rosa）是鋼琴家，深受作曲家魯賓斯坦所喜愛。帕斯捷爾納克從小就能作曲，也會寫詩，莫斯科文學院畢業，曾留學德國的馬爾堡大學，攻讀哲學，又在歐洲各國遊歷，參加過未來派文學團體。十月革命前發表詩集《雲霧中的雙子星座》（1914）和《在街壘上》(1917)，二○年代著有長詩《崇高的疾病》（1924）和描述俄國第一次革命的長詩《一九○五年》（1925-1926）、《施密特中尉》（1926-1927）等，受到高爾基的好評。三○年代著有自傳體小說《旅行護照》（1931）和詩集《重生》（1932）等。1957年在國外發表小說《齊瓦哥醫生》，其中對十月革命的批評使之被蘇聯作家協會開除。1958年獲諾貝爾文學獎，獲獎理由為「在當代抒情詩和俄國的史詩傳統上，他都獲得了極為重大的成就」，卻因文本抨擊革命，受到當局多方阻撓而拒絕受獎，兩年之後即告去世。

　　Boris Pasternak was born in Moscow in 1890 and after briefly training as a composer resolved to be a writer. He published a large number of collections of poetry, written under the burden of Soviet Russia's stringent censorship, before publishing his most famous work, Dr Zhivago, in 1958. This novel won him the Nobel Prize for Literature but the USSR's hostility to the West meant he was forced to turn it down. He died in 1960.
