2018年度風雲人物(Person of the Year)，這份殊榮給予新聞記者，包括10月初遭到謀殺的阿拉伯知名異議記者哈紹吉(Jamal Khashoggi)，以及至今仍被緬甸政府囚禁的2名路透社記者瓦隆(Wa Lone)和喬索歐(Kyaw Soe Oo)。
 
32歲的瓦隆與28歲的喬索歐，因為報導洛興雅穆斯林遭到緬甸軍方屠殺事件，去年12月遭到逮捕，被控違反政府機密法(Official Secrets Act)，並在今年9月3日被判處7年徒刑。
 
至於哈紹吉則是在10月2日為了領取結婚所需文件，進入沙烏地阿拉伯駐伊斯坦堡領事館後，遭到利雅德派出的行刑小組分屍殺害。的沙烏地阿拉伯王儲薩爾曼親王(Mohammed Bin Salman)被控是幕後凶手。
