The Standard described in this publication applies to paved areas subject to applicable permitted axle loads and trafficked up to 10 million 80-kN-equivalent single axle loads. That is 18,000 pounds. Other parameters are a minimum thickness of 80 millimeters or 3.125 inches, and vehicle speed up to 70 kilometers or 45 miles per hour. Readers are assumed to be familiar enough with soil mechanics, traffic loading, and pavement materials to apply the Standards.
