In essays commissioned for this book, international contributors in economics examine the reasons behind the breakdown of the financial and credit systems in 2008-2009 and look at the need for
reforms in theory and policy in the aftermath of the crisis. Contributors are not part of the mainstream, neoclassical, Keynesian tradition in economic theory; instead, they come from
environmental, Marxist, institutionalist, monetarist, free market, interventionist, Minskyite, and Schumpeterian traditions. Some specific subjects explored include public sector governance in
a comprehensive neo-Schumpeterian system, the aftermath of the Great Recession from a monetary equilibrium theory perspective, political economy without Keynes, and financial reform in the age
