Katy Perry has combined dreams and inspiration to create music that has made her an international star. Though only in her thirties, she has won numerous awards and joined the ranks of the world's highest-earning celebrities. At the same time, she has continued to give back to society, both inside and outside of the music world.

Those who know Perry for her daring costumes and lyrics may be surprised to find out that she was actually raised in a very conservative family. Her parents, both pastors, forbade her from listening to rock and pop music. The closest she could get was the sound track to the Whoopi Goldberg film  Sister Act, which her parents felt was appropriate. She studied music, but her focus was on gospel. In fact, her first attempt at recording found her taking several trips with her mother to Nashville, where she recorded an unsuccessful gospel album.

Fortunately, her friends eventually introduced her to sounds beyond what her parents approved of. One of her biggest favorites was—and still is—the band Queen, which she loved for both its music and onstage theatrics. These elements have come together in Perry's own colorful performances, and she has brought her music even further by adding positive social messages to many of her songs.

 

凱蒂．佩芮結合夢想和靈感創作出讓她成為國際巨星的音樂。儘管才三十歲出頭，她已經贏得許多獎項、躋身全球收入最高的名人之列。在此同時，她也持續在音樂上與音樂之外回饋社會。

那些因凱蒂．佩芮大膽的服裝及歌詞而認識她的人，可能會驚訝地發現她其實生長在一個非常保守的家庭。她的雙親都是牧師，不准她聽搖滾樂和流行音樂。她所能接觸最接近這兩種類型的音樂是琥碧．戈柏主演的《修女也瘋狂》的電影原聲帶，她父母覺得是恰當的。凱蒂．佩芮學習音樂，不過是以福音歌曲為主。事實上，她錄製的第一張唱片是和媽媽跑了好幾趟納許維爾才完成的，她在那裡錄製了一張不成功的福音專輯。

幸好，凱蒂．佩芮的朋友終於介紹她聽那些她父母不認同的音樂風格。她到現在都還非常喜愛的就是皇后合唱團，她熱愛這個樂團的音樂和舞台表演效果。這些元素融入到凱蒂．佩芮個人多采多姿的表演中，而且她在許多歌曲中加入正面的社會訊息，將她的音樂帶到另一個層次。
